It's Never Too Late To Pursue Your Dreams

On June 10th, I accomplished a dream that was in my heart 36 years ago. I was first introduced to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in 1982 on the campus of Lewis University in Romeoville, IL. This was my first college experience. As a black girl from the Southside of Chicago on a predominately white college campus, I was totally unprepared for what I experienced. I left that college experience without completing my degree or realizing my dream of becoming an AKA. Life happened and I eventually relocated to Atlanta, GA, married a wonderful man, went into ministry, gave birth to some awesome children, returned to school, earned 5 academic degrees and several professional certifications. While I had accomplished much, there was still a dream that I had neatly tucked away in my heart and thought this would never come back around for me. Thanks to my girlfriend, Soror Shermanetta Carter who reignited the flame for AKA in my heart through a simple conversation. Thanks to my Sister-in-love, Soror Anastasia Brown Alvarado for keeping that flame alive when I almost allowed life to blow it out again. Thanks to my 4th grade girlfriend, Soror Felicia FeFe McBride who, much like our childhood walks to Bryn Mawr Elementary School, walked with me through the final steps of accomplishing this dream, by pinning me on yesterday! The moral of this story is, It’s never too late to pursue your dream... #AKA1908 πŸ’—πŸ’š
